Local goalie wins SJHL Championship with Nipawin Hawks

The power of healing is in the game.

This was the message from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League when they announced they would be playing the Championship series following the Humboldt Broncos tragedy.

The Nipawin Hawks and Estevan Bruins competed in the Canalta Cup Final which saw the Nipawin Hawks secure the title with a 2-1 victory in game 7 Tuesday night.

Nipawin also has a Peace Region connection.

Back up goaltender Jake Anthony of the Hawks hails from Grande Prairie and made one appearance in the post-season.

During the regular season, Anthony appeared in 32 games with the Hawks and had a 20-3 record.

The Hawks will now move on to the Anavet Cup where they will play the MJHL’s Steinbach Pistons.
