Annual 3D Hockey and Soccer Tournament raises over 100,000

Organizers are calling the 18th annual 3D Hockey and Soccer Tournament a success.

Chair of the 3D Children’s Society Darren Foley says there was a large community turnout,  in addition to the 65 teams participating.

“Twenty-five soccer teams playing from schools across the three local school districts. Almost forty teams on the hockey side. Really good crowds at the Coca-Cola Centre and Eastlink Centre.”

Based on early estimates this year’s tournament brought in over a 100,000 dollars with more donations on the way.

“Some of the schools are doing some fundraisers. We have some businesses that are wanting to donate. We are going to be able to some absolutely amazing and wonderful things for students in our community who are dealing with some series medical issues,” said Foley.

Early estimates say more than one hundred thousand dollars, which would be the first time that amount has ever been collected.

Foley adds the money helps cover a wide range of aspects for sick kids.

“We have a number of different students who have to travel and have to sit in hospitals for long periods of time. Then, of course, we try to help with students who have different types of medical equipment whether that be a wheel chairlift or wheelchair ramp,” added Foley.

Over the near two decades of the event, the tournament has raised over a million dollars and helps between 35 to 45 students per year.
