Nitehawk switching gears to summer season

May 3, 2018 | 11:58 AM

It was roughly two weeks ago the Nitehawk Year-Round Adventure Park was open for skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. The area will now be switching over to summer activities.

Assistant General Manager Jonathan Clarkson says they are preparing for the summer season three weeks earlier than last year.

“We actually just opened for our first day of the driving range (May 1). So, hours of operation for the rest of the week will be 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day.”

Clarkson says he expects a great turnout at the Bear Paw Par 3 Golf Course and Driving Range in 2018.

“With the access of 68th [Avenue] and 100th [Street] now being open (and) this year having easier access to the Bear Creek Park area, we anticipate that it will increase our traffic.”

This Saturday will feature the first ever used bike and gear swap in Grande Prairie. The gear swap takes place at the South Bear Creek Park Pavilion with gates open for the public at 11 a.m. on May 5.

“You can come on down to at 8:30 in the morning and drop off your bike or gear that you want to sell for the swap,” added Clarkson. “We will have volunteers there pricing it, tagging it, and putting it into the swap itself.”

Park staff are also aiming to have Bear Paw Golf Course up and running this weekend if the weather permits.
