Teenager who fell into the Athabasca River near Slave Lake still missing

May 3, 2018 | 2:24 PM

The search for a young man who fell into the Athabasca River from a highway bridge has been called off.

Late Tuesday night, Slave Lake RCMP responded to a report that a person fell into the river.

An exhaustive search was carried out Wednesday using boats, helicopters, drones and search teams along the banks of the river.

The 17-year old has not been found.

Emergency crews now say it’s a recovery operation due to a high and fast-flowing current, cold temperatures and a large amount of debris in the water.

The youth’s name has not been released, but police say they have been in contact with his family.
