Local company launches pink fire truck fund-raiser

Jun 24, 2018 | 7:00 AM

A local business has come up with a very unique way to raise money for the cancer unit at the new Grande Prairie hospital.

Firepower Oilfield Firefighting now has a pink fire truck in its fleet. Two percent of all the paid invoices the company gets from its customers who get pink fire truck will go to the cancer unit.

Company owner Louise Rupertus says she wanted to do this after her husband Al died of cancer, and she survived her own bout with the disease.

“That’s my contribution, to be involved in the community. I’ve always wanted to be involved, but I didn’t know how. Then, this pink baby (came along) and I decided that’s going to be my (legacy). Before I die, I said, there’s going be a pink truck and there she is, my dream come true.”

Rupertus says companies are already asking to book the truck.

“It’s already been reserved (by) request on the leases. Companies have already (made reservations), they want the pink truck.”
