New programs for recreational centres assist low-income earners

Aug 5, 2018 | 7:26 AM

The County of Grande Prairie is making recreational opportunities more obtainable to all residents.

Lisa Watson team lead for the Child, Youth Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) says the County has introduced a Recreation Fee Assistance (RFA) Program to low-income earners.

“The Fee Assistance Program is a 10-punch pass that is available to the qualifying low-income earners within the County of Grande Prairie to access the recreational facilities that are available.”

Watson adds there are certain criteria that people must fit into in order to be eligible.

“Our indicators are on our application form. There is a low-income cut-off. They go by single or couple, depending on family size. Then they would have to submit their notice of assessment from their previous tax year as well as either a bill or ID showing their address.”

Applicants can apply for a 10 punch/use pass to the Crosslink County Sportsplex, Beaverlodge Rec Centre or the Eastlink Centre.

Additionally, as of Tuesday (August 7), the City is also providing a Recreation Access Program (RAP) for eligible applicants to the Eastlink Centre. It will cover 75 per cent of the cost of a membership at the Centre.
