New County Sportsplex Fishing Pond stocked with rainbow trout

Aug 7, 2018 | 1:44 PM

A new angling venue has opened as part of the recreation activities at the Crosslink County Sportsplex.

The Alberta Conservation Association (ACA) and County of Grande Prairie have launched the County Sportsplex Fishing Pond. It has been stocked with 2,200 rainbow trout.

“With the installation of a new dock and signage, we expect that angling and fishing hobbyists of all ages and skill levels will come and test out the waters,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Christine Rawlins in a media release.

An investment of $15,000 was made by the County to turn the storm water management pond into a fishing spot.

The County will be using the space for future programming with an upcoming free “Kids Can Catch” day being held on August 16.

ACA will be responsible for annual stocking of the water.

The fishing pond is located behind the playground on the east side of the Sportsplex parking lot. People will be able to fish and use non-motorized boats from dawn until dusk. There are rules posted at the venue.
