Rain helps firefighters make progress on Wardle fire, warmer temperatures expected

Aug 13, 2018 | 2:22 PM

Rain and cooler temperatures have allowed crews to make progress on containing a wildfire that’s posed a threat to a major highway link between Alberta and B-C.

Parks Canada says there have been no significant changes to the Wardle blaze in Kootenay National Park that’s presenting a risk to traffic on Highway 93 South.

Work is being done to set up containment lines to stop the spread of the fire in the Vermilion valley, while bucket-equipped helicopters are fighting the flames along the perimeter to support ground crews.

Parks Canada warns that hot, dry weather is in the forecast over the next few days, which may help spread the blaze.
