Alberta Mounties ask land owners for help in finding overdue aircraft

Aug 14, 2018 | 8:33 AM

WESTLOCK, Alta. – Police are asking farmers and other property owners in an area northwest of Edmonton to check their land for any sign of a small plane that never arrived at its destination.

RCMP at Westlock say they were told Monday by the Coast Guard Rescue Co-ordination Centre that a Cessna 172 with just the pilot on board was overdue in their area.

They say the plane left Edson, Alta., just before 5:30 p.m. Sunday and was due to land in Westlock at 7:00 that evening.

It never arrived and no contact has been made with the pilot.

Mounties say the plane is white with black and red stripes.

Landowners in the Evansburg, Mayerthorpe, Barrhead, and Westlock areas are being asked to let police know if they have any idea where the aircraft may be, or if they think they may have seen it flying over.
