Doug Marshall remembered as ‘great friend’ says local dealership GM

A local vehicle dealership General Manager is remembering his friend Doug Marshall, a late local entrepreneur, as a “great man to work for” that “knew what he wanted”.

Rolly Marie, GM at Doug Marshall Chevrolet Corvette Cadillac, started working with the namesake in 1986 and worked under him for 15 years. Marie recalls Marshall as a man that appreciated his employees to be on time for meetings and for having high expectations for their work ethic.

“He was always a really, really great guy. He would visit every single worker in the dealership every single day. He made it his business to know every individual by first name. It didn’t matter if they worked in the wash bay or body shop or as a technician,” says Marie.

The dealership was sold to Wheaton GM over a decade ago, but Marie always remained friends with Marshall.

“We would go for lunches and dinners together. Our spouses are friends. We knew his kids from the time they were little, saw the kids grow up, saw the kids have kids themselves. When Doug was sick, I would visit him every couple of days or so.”

Marie says he was also a dedicated Rotary Club member, philanthropist, had a lot of charity work under his belt and could work over 60 hours a week, easily.

“Overall he was a great friend, husband, father and definitely, definitely knew how to work,” says the GM.

“What other people deemed to be work, for him, it wasn’t work he enjoyed it. It was a hobby and passion for him, to make the business successful.”

A service was held for Marshall Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grande Prairie.
