Vipers look to snap 5 game losing skid

Nov 28, 2018 | 6:05 AM

The Sundown Oilfield Services Sexsmith Vipers enter Wednesday in 4th place in the North West Junior Hockey League and are looking to snap a lengthy losing skid this evening when they host the 1st place Dawson Creek Jr.Canucks.

The Vipers enter Wednesday’s game with a 7-8-1 record on the year but have lost their last 5 games.

Their losing skid began back on November 9th when they lost to the Jr.Canucks at the NWJHL Showcase in arguably the most entertaining game of the three day event.

“We play pretty similar styles. A couple of big lines on either side and some good goaltending. It was a really good game, and we are looking to have something similar Wednesday night against Dawson.” stated Vipers Head Coach Rob Lavalley.

Dawson Creek has a 13-6-0 record on the year and also boasts three players in the top 4 in league scoring.

With the amount of offensive talent up front, Lavalley knows his club will have to be discipline if they want to get back in the win column.

“You got to stay out of the penalty box against those guys. They can score from wherever on the ice, but you give them an extra guy and it’s just a matter of time. We have to be discipline all over the ice and we have to capitalize on our opportunities,” added Lavalley.

Puck drop for Wednesday night’s contest between the Vipers and Jr.Canucks is at 8:00 p.m. in Sexsmith.
