Vipers comeback falls short against 1st place Jr.Canucks

Nov 29, 2018 | 5:41 AM

The Sundown Oilfield Services Sexsmith Vipers and Dawson Creek Jr.Canucks took centre stage Wednesday night as they were the lone teams to take to the ice in the North West Junior Hockey League.

It was another thrilling contest between the two clubs, and once again it was the Jr.Canucks who earned an overtime victory, this time 4-3.

After trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes, the Jr.Canucks scored three consecutive goals and had a 3-1 advantage early in the 3rd period.

The Vipers wouldn’t go away though.

Ashyton Coleman would get the Vipers to within one at the midway point of the period, and Thomas Lavalley would even the contest just a few minutes later.

However, on this night the Vipers were unable to complete the comeback as Kole Comin scored the game winner in overtime for Dawson Creek to give the Jr.Canucks the win and the extra point.

With the win, the Jr.Canucks extended their lead a top the NWJHL standings with a 14-6-0 record, while the Vipers fall to 7-8-2.

The league will be off until Saturday when all six teams take to the ice.

The JDA Kings will visit the Jr.Canucks, Fort St.John is in Fairview, and Sexsmith hosts the North Peace Navigators.
