Enormous Christmas tree coming to Hythe

Nov 30, 2018 | 1:16 PM

Hythe will have a giant Christmas tree this year.

The tree, which is  34-feet high and  21-feet wide, will be brought in by helicopter Saturday and be set up in the middle of a village street

Mayor Brian Peterson says it was donated by a farm west of Hythe.

“We’re going to have a celebration. The community will decorate the tree. Everyone is invited to bring a decoration or two to put on the tree. We’re going to have hydraulic lifts there so we can take people up and down to decorate the tree high and low.  I think it’ll be a really good time. We’re going the have hot chocolate and hot dogs there free and warming barrels, so we’ll make an afternoon of it.”

He adds they do have some decorations already.

“We’ve asked everyone to bring a decoration or two with them so that they can put their own individual decorations on the tree.”

Local businesses donated the use of the helicopter and lifts, as well as a tree stand.

“As you can guess, a 34-foot (high) tree (that is) 21 feet wide takes quite a tree stand. You can’t really buy it at Wal Mart, ” adds Peterson.

The tree is set to arrive at Noon Saturday with a lighting set for 5 p.m.
