Calgary court to hear appeal on GSA law challenge

Dec 4, 2018 | 8:48 AM

CALGARY, AB — The Alberta Court of Appeal is set to hear an argument from faith-based schools in Alberta looking to overturn a ruling on gay-straight alliances in schools.

A group of 25 faith-based schools are being represented by the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms in the challenge, and are asking the court to grant an injunction on enforcement of the gay-straight alliance law.

The challenge was heard in Medicine Hat Court of Queen’s Bench in June. The request to place an injunction of the law was denied.

Among the schools involved in the challenge are the Newell Christian School Society in Brooks and the 40 Mile Christian Education Society in Bow Island.
