New food guide has Alberta beef producers worried

Alberta beef producers are concerned that Canada’s new food guide will lead to a drop in red meat consumption.
The new guide released today by Health Canada recommends people eat plenty of vegetables and fruits as well as whole grain foods and more often get their protein from plants.
But a policy adviser for Alberta Beef Producers questions whether it’s true that plant-based protein is much better for you than animal-based protein.
The Canadian Cattlemen’s Association adds in a statement that Health Canada has missed an opportunity to inform Canadians about the benefits of eating lean beef as a source of protein.
