La Glace’s new fire hall experiencing construction delays

Mar 3, 2019 | 6:00 AM

The expected completion date for the new La Glace Fire Hall has been pushed back.

The County of Grande Prairie’s Community Services Director Dan Lemieux says the project has experienced some construction issues and won’t be ready by spring.

“The La Glace Fire Hall construction project is behind schedule. We have received a recommendation from the engineering firm that we have to raise the entire site by two feet to provide adequate drainage,” says Lemieux.

He says most of the construction is going to take place over the summer.

“The construction committee decided to halt the project at this time until the spring because we didn’t want to have to enclose the building and heat the building during construction. In spring time, probably May, when the frost is out of the ground, we’re going to reconfirm that the ground work is all adequate, then we’ll resume construction at that time.”

The project is now scheduled to be complete before the end of 2019.
