Bus facility to be built in Vision West Business Park and other council highlights

Mar 25, 2019 | 10:15 PM

The Grande Prairie Catholic School District has received approval to build a bus maintenance facility in the Vision West Business Park.

Council approved changes to the business park’s outline plan and the land use bylaw during last night’s council meeting.

Superintendent Karl Germann says the facility would cost about $1.5-million, and the space they have been allowed to use will be able to store plenty of buses and equipment.

“There’s a fleet of 60 buses. We contract some and we own some of our own, and we also own our own (maintenance) vehicles” says Germann. “So, we continue to look at what we can do to provide transportation services in the area, so some of it might be used for our buses, some of it might be used for our maintenance vehicles and maintenance storage. It’ll depend over time, but certainly we need something that’s going to continue to grow and expand.”

Construction on the facility is likely to begin within the next few months.
