Candidates list finalized for provincial election

The nomination deadline for the April 16 provincial election came and went Friday afternoon.

Six people will have their name on the ballot in the new Grande Prairie riding: Tracy Allard with the United Conservative Party, Grant Berg with the Alberta Party, Bernard Hancock of the Freedom Conservatives, Independent candidate Rony Rajput, Ray Robertson with the Alberta Independence Party, and Todd Russell with the NDP.

Four people are running in GP-Wapiti: Independent Terry Dueck, New Democrat Shannon Dunfield, Jason Jones with the Alberta Party and Travis Toews with the United Conservatives.

Two incumbent MLAs are running against each other in Central Peace-Notley. Todd Loewen of the United Conservatives and New Democrat Marg McQuaig-Boyd. There are two other candidates as well, Travis McKim of the Alberta Party and Wayne Meyer of the Alberta Liberals.

The riding boundaries have been re-drawn for this election. Grande Prairie takes in most of the city, along with some rural areas to the west. GP-Wapiti now includes part of the east side of the city, as well as rural areas to the east, west, and south. What was left of the former GP Smoky constituency was folded into the former Dunvegan-Central Peace-Notley to form Central Peace-Notley.
