GPMBA gearing up for 2019 season

Apr 5, 2019 | 9:07 AM

Grande Prairie Minor Baseball Association is getting their ducks in a row for the upcoming baseball season which is just around the corner.

However, when the teams head outside and take to the field is currently up in the air according to President of the GPMBA Jason Lainchbury.

“Depends on which diamond we are talking about. We have several out at Evergreen Park. One of them which we looked at looks ready for play. Completely dry and ready to play. Then there are others which are snow covered and some that are completely under water.”

Despite the recent winter blast the swan city received on Thursday GPMBA is hopeful to have their teams potentially on the field at the end of next week.

When it comes to registration for the 2019 season, the Association has seen a good number of players sign up according to Lainchbury.

“We actually had pretty good numbers this year. Fairly consistent with the numbers from the last few years. We are sitting around 550-600 athletes for this year which is pretty on par with 2018.”

The GPMBA could see more players registered following this weekend as they will be at the Sports Expo for the three-day event.
