Eastlink launches mobile phone service in Grande Prairie

Apr 13, 2019 | 7:00 AM

Grande Prairie residents now have another mobile phone carrier to choose from, as Eastlink unveiled its new mobile service on Thursday at the Eastlink Centre.

This is not a new venture for the telecommunications company, as they have already launched service in many other locations that the operate in.

“This is our sixth province that we’ve done,” said VP of Marketing and Sales Jeff Gillham. “Today we are in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, parts of Northern Ontario and now Grande Prairie.”

There are a couple of features which Gillham said make Eastlink’s service more unique to its competitors. One is what the company calls an “Easy Tab”, in which any device is purchased with no money down and is paid off over time on their monthly bill. Once the device is paid off, the amount owed on the monthly bill is lowered.

Gillham also noted that Eastlink offers buyouts of existing contracts to help customers switch to their service at any time.

An issue some consumers face when they switch to a new or smaller provider in a larger market, they find that their service is rather spotty once their leave their market. Gillham says that won’t be an issue for Eastlink customers.

“In Grande Prairie, ourselves, we have built our own infrastructure and we do that in all the areas where we launch our solution,” said Gillham. “When you travel to another city, you would roam to one of our national roaming partners. So, we roam with all the three big carriers.”
