RCMP secure money to repair memorial honouring constables killed in Mayerthorpe

Apr 22, 2019 | 4:35 PM

The RCMP has come to the rescue of a fundraising effort to repair a memorial to four constables killed in Mayerthorpe, Alberta, 14 years ago.

Colette McKillop of the Fallen Four Memorial Society says the campaign to raise $17,000 faltered when it was launched seven months ago.

But she says it took off when a Mountie on their board offered to share it widely among RCMP members across the province.

By last Friday the fund had raised $23,000 which will be used to make repairs as well as clean and resurface the statues at the memorial.

The four constables were killed when they were ambushed while investigating a marijuana grow op in 2005.
