Rookie Grande Prairie Storm forward Alex Nordstrom has been selected in Phase 2 of the United States Hockey League’s draft Tuesday morning.

Nordstrom was selected in the 2nd round by the Fargo Force.

The USHL Phase 2 draft allows USHL clubs to select junior eligible players from other Junior leagues in both Canada and the United States and give those USHL clubs the rights to the players they selected.

“You know it’s going to happen. He’s a good hockey player,” stated Storm Head Coach Matt Keillor.

“I was just down in Minnesota for a tournament doing some scouting and talked with a lot of USHL teams down there so we were well aware of the situation, but all indications are he is coming back and he will be a very important piece of our leadership group next year.”

The 2000 born forward was the first player from the Alberta Junior Hockey League to be picked in this years USHL Phase 2 draft, but not the first in Western Canada.

Notre Dame Hounds (Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League) forward Nolan Renwick was selected by Omaha to close out the 1st round.

Nordstrom, who hails from Hancock Michigan is committed to Michigan Tech for the 2020-2021 season.
