New tree for Grande Prairie school marks Alberta Forest Week

May 9, 2019 | 4:38 PM

The annual Arbor Day tree plant took place at Roy Bickell School in Grande Prairie Thursday.

People from the Swan City Rotary Club were also busy handing out tree seedlings to Grade 1 kids.

Every Grade 1 student in Alberta got a seedling to take home as part of Alberta Forest Week.

The annual Walk Through the Forest will take place next Monday through Wednesday at the Wapiti Nordic Centre trails. 1400 Grade 6 kids will learn about industries, wildfire prevention, and forest health, among other things.

The walks are usually held during Forest Week, but an Alberta Agriculture and Forestry spokesperson says they were moved because the weather will be drier and the companies that take part will have summer employees starting at that time.
