Expect a busy wildfire season: Natural Resources Canada

A new forecast from Natural Resources Canada shows the danger of wildfires in Western Canada is extreme in parts of the southern Prairies.

The latest report from the department’s Northern Forestry Centre in Edmonton says the danger level is also extreme in Yukon, while aggressive blazes are already being fought in B.C.

Alberta has 26 active fires, one of which is classified as out of control northwest of Manning.

Officials say more than half of all wildfires are caused by humans, while lightning strikes account for the rest.
