The Town of Wembley becomes fourth shareholder in Aquatera Utilities Inc.

May 23, 2019 | 5:30 AM

The Town of Wembley has officially joined Aquatera Utilities Inc. as the organization’s fourth shareholder.

Wembley transferred its water infrastructure assets in exchange for shares in Aquatera on January 1.

In mid-June, a 26 km water transmission line will join the town of Wembley to the City of Grande Prairie and provide high quality, reliable drinking water from the Aquatera system.

Aquatera invested over $3 million towards the cost of the $22 million water transmission line.

As of July 1, the wastewater system and services in the Town will be assumed by Aquatera, who will be responsible for the system infrastructure.

In a release, County Reeve Leanne Beaupre says, “the County was proud invest $1 million into oversizing the West County to Wembley water line to accommodate Dimsdale residents as well as future extension to the west. This project is a fine example of what can happen when we work together to improve the quality of life for residents.”

Aquatera has been working with the town for 10 years now.

To celebrate the new partnership, a ceremony will be held at the Wembley Town Office on May 24 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
