Watch for machinery on roads during seeding says Ag. For Life

May 24, 2019 | 5:30 AM

Agriculture for Life is asking drivers to watch for big farm equipment on the roads during the busy seeding season.

CEO Luree Williamson says they are asking people to Be Seen and Be Safe.

“This time of the year, we have our farmers and ranchers that are back. The farmers are moving their large equipment, they’re getting out to the fields. The warm weather brings out a lot more travel and highway traffic. We just want to promote the fact to motorists to really slow down and ensure the safety of themselves and the operator of the large equipment.”

She adds motorists should slow down and keep a safe distance back when approaching machinery.

“So that the operator, the farmer himself or herself, can actually see them and knows that they’re behind there, and, of course, to be patient.

Williamson cautions drivers should only pass when it is safe to do so.

“It is not the farmer’s responsibility to pull over and allow you to pass. It’s a courtesy when it is safe for them to do so. We have to share the road.”

Williamson says farmers should try to avoid high traffic times if possible, make sure all lights and slow-moving signs are clean and visible, and to keep out an eye out for vehicles, and let them pass when it is safe to do so.
