Peerless Trout First Nation on evacuation alert

May 28, 2019 | 12:56 PM

The Peerless Trout First Nation is on evacuation alert because of a wildfire.

Slave Lake Forest Area fire watchers say the out of control blaze, located 14 kilometres southeast of Trout Lake, has burned 300 hectares.

The Alberta Emergency Management Agency says people should be ready to leave on short notice and that smoke may limit visibility for drivers.

Officials in the Slave Lake Forest Area also say one of the two blazes that are part of what they call the McMillan Wildfire Complex is now being held at 1,457 hectares. It is surrounded by a fire guard.

The bigger of the two is considered out of control. It has burned 57,835 hectares.

Fire watchers add dozer guards have been built around the north and south ends of this fire, with work continuing on the other sides.

Smoke may continue to drift into Wabasca
