Body found near fire west of Slave Lake ruled a homicide

An autopsy done on the body of a man found near a fire west of Slave Lake on May 31 has concluded that the cause of death was a homicide.

The autopsy on the body of 30-year-old Darren Dawson was completed on Tuesday in Edmonton.

Slave Lake RCMP say no further information is available at this time and that the investigation is ongoing by the RCMP’s Major Crimes unit.

Around 1:30 a.m. last Friday, Slave Lake RCMP and Fire Services responded to a report of a fire about 20 kilometres west of Slave Lake, where Dawson’s body was found as crews extinguished the fire.
