Crime Prevention to host adolescents and drugs workshop

Jun 11, 2019 | 11:47 AM

The Crime Prevention Youth Intervention Program along with AHS Youth Addiction Services and RCMP, are holding a drug awareness work shop regarding youth in the city.

Public Education & Event Coordinator for GP Crime Prevention Cheryl George notes there will be discussions regarding several drug related topics.

“What they are going to do is focus on drugs and how they work, what the current drug trends are in Grande Prairie, and the associated risks that go with the drugs and alcohol and mixing them.”

Drugs continue to be a problem in Grande Prairie among youth, but as George adds the issue is well beyond the Swan City.

“There is an opioid crisis happening all over and it is affecting youth as well. We are seeing a lot of younger kids aged 12 or 13 getting into the drug scene and it is quite disturbing.”

The event is free of charge to attend and anyone involved with youth in their day to day lives who are looking to get more information on the issue are encouraged to attend.

The workshop takes place Tuesday, June 18 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at City on 99th.
