So far, so good for County of Grande Prairie crops
Drought is hitting some areas in western Canada, but that is not the case in the County of Grande Prairie says Ag Fieldman Sonja Raven.
“They’re (the crops) are actually looking really good . That last bit of rain we had, and some of this heat, they’re coming up really nicely. We had a little bit of grasshopper activity, but they were pretty young and I think that cold weather set them back a bit. We don’t have a lot of pests on the radar yet.”
She adds soil moisture still looks good.
“Overall, we’re looking really good. I had one fella say ‘Yeah, it wouldn’t hurt if we had some rain in a few days’ but, by and large, the soil moisture is pretty good. It’s down in the soil and we’re not hurting yet. I think if we get a few more timely rains and a little bit more heat, we’re looking good so far.”
