Canada’s national summer sport continuing to gain popularity in the Swan City

The Grande Prairie Minor Lacrosse Association’s 2019 season is well underway and all the Association’s teams are having success.

“It is going great for us,” stated President Ron Regnier.

“We have three levels of play that we have two teams at. I think every one of our teams have a win this year. The encouraging thing is we are seeing some larger numbers at the younger ages.”

Regnier adds this gives the Association belief there is growth potential moving forward in the next couple years.

Another sign of the growth is the amount of interest by the parents.

“Each year, we have a coaching clinic and this year we had eight coaches signed up to take the clinic which is the most we have ever had. This is a great indicator that the parents have also bought in,” added Regnier.

Team-wise, the growth of lacrosse in the Swan City could get a major boost next year with the addition of a junior team.

More details on that story on Monday.
