Update: Highway near Grande Cache reopened

Jul 9, 2019 | 12:38 PM

UPDATE (1:31 p.m.): The highway has been cleared and the road is once again opened. Drive with caution in the area as crews continue cleanup efforts.

Alberta 511 also says that the highway from Grande Cache to about 30 kilometres north of the hamlet has the potential for further mudslides due to the significant amount of rainfall. Watch for mud and rocks on the roadway as you travel in that area.

(Earlier Tuesday): Highway 40 north of Grande Cache is closed due to a mudslide.

The section of highway near the mine, approximately 10 km north of the hamlet, is closed in both directions.

511Alberta says motorists can expect significant delays.

According to Grande Cache Emergency Services on Facebook, Ledcor is attending the scene and trying to clear the debris.

Updates will be posted here as they become available.
