Bill Rogan officially steps aside as CAO of County of Grande Prairie

After more than 24 years with the County of Grande Prairie, Chief Administrative Officer Bill Rogan has officially retired.

Rogan left his office for the final time on Friday, marking the official end of his near quarter century spent with the County. That left him with mixed feelings as he gets set to enjoy life away from work.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here at the County. I’ve worked with some great people, worked with some great citizens of the County and other communities. We’ve seen lots of changes, positive I think, in many ways.” said Rogan. “But it was time. Time for a change and time for me to wind my way into retirement.”

He noted seeing the growth of the County as one of the biggest things he was proud of during his tenure in the CAO’s role. That growth led to many successful projects of note having been completed during that time.

“The Sportsplex project, the Phillip J. Currie Museum, bringing in house our own Fire Service,” said Rogan. “It’s always been exciting and never stagnant. Always kept you busy, always kept you interested and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.”

With all that spare time he’ll soon have, Rogan is looking forward to having more time at the lake with his family and having time to travel with his wife.

“Perhaps also picking up some of the things I haven’t had the time to do. Whether that’s golf or that sort of thing. But I’m looking forward to some down time.”

Rogan will make one more official appearance at the County Office Monday morning, where he will introduce the incoming CAO, Joulia Whittleton, at Council’s meeting. Rogan, who has known Whittleton for many years through her tenure as the CAO of Saddle Hills County, says he has the utmost confidence in her ability to guide the County into the future.

“She’s very knowledgeable, great personal skills and I know she’ll do very well.”
