Controlled burn planned to fight Chuckegg Creek wildfire

Jul 17, 2019 | 2:18 PM

Officials with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry are hoping a controlled burn will help fight the Chuckegg Creek wildfire.

The burn is planned to take place over the next several days west of a bend in the Peace River (the area highlighted in pink below).

A release from the High Level Forest Area Wildfire Information Office says the hope is this will limit chances for the fire to grow and make McKenzie County and other communities safer.

They do warn that this will mean what they term “a dramatic increase in smoke.”

Anyone with health questions about smoky air should contact Alberta Health Services or check its web site.

The Chuckegg Creek fire has burned 334, 481 hectares.

There are 978 firefighters and support staff. 48 helicopters, and 83 pieces of equipment fighting the blaze.
