Grande Prairie Disc Golf Association welcoming World Champion in September

The Grande Prairie Disc Golf Club will be welcoming the reigning World Champion Disc Golfer to the Swan City come September.

It will be an opportunity for residents to learn from the best of the best stated Club Secretary Greg Hearn as the City hosts Gregg Barsby, the 2018 World Champion, on September 21.

“The way he runs the Barsby Battles is it works as a little bit of a meet and greet with him. He will do some clinics where he will discuss form, how he throws, how you do your putting styles, and just in general how to improve your game overall.”

Residents will then get the chance to put their new skills to the test following the seminar as they play 18 holes of disc golf.

Barsby’s stop in Grande Prairie is part of his weekend tour of the Peace Country as he also visits Fort St.John and Dawson Creek.

Hearn adds having the World Champion come to Grande Prairie is a great way to grow the sport in the community.

“We’re always looking to grow in Grande Prairie. This is a very accessible sport and we are seeing a lot of members on the course this year along with casual players. It has been very busy. It is a nice way to bring your families for a very inexpensive activity.”

Ahead of the seminar event with Gregg Barsby on September 21, the Grande Prairie Disc Golf Club will be hosting their annual Swan City Showdown event August 24-25.
