Upgrades for Drysdale Centre

Aug 1, 2019 | 5:30 AM

A $150,000 renovation project is under way at the Drysdale Centre.

Evergreen Park general manager Dan Gorman says many things are being done.

“We’re re-tinning the inside right from the ground up to the ceiling. We’re re-painting all of the beams and the metal works on the walls. We’re upgrading the ventilation system, which is going to be a real important and good upgrade, as well as just fine-tuning some of the inside aesthetics.”

He adds a donation is helping pay for some of the work.

“Ken Drysdale came forward with a significant sponsorship. Gymkhana has helped out and, significantly also, the County of Grande Prairie has and all of them were able to come up with just a wonderful upgrading face-lift at the Drysdale Centre. It all started with Ken Drysdale and his significant contribution.”

Gorman says there has been “a little bit” of impact on people who use the building.

“There’s been a few weekend events that we’ve had to either postpone or not allow in for weekends this summer just to get this stuff done. We’re hoping to have the majority of all the renovations done by the end of August.”

Gorman says they also hope to fix up the inside of the Lewis Hawkes Pavilion and the outside of both buildings in future years. Some donations for the Lewis Hawkes interior have come in and some grant applications have been sent out. Gorman says those fix-ups would be similar to what is being done in the Drysdale Centre.
