La Crete application for NPHL denied

Aug 2, 2019 | 9:06 AM

There will not be a North Peace Hockey League team in La Crete for the 2019-2020 season.

In late July a group from the community applied to join the league siting they had a financial commitment, a preliminary list of players, and staff.

However, following a week of discussions between the league and its current clubs the NPHL has denied their application.

A vote was held following a league conference call on Tuesday July 30.

The biggest hurdle for the La Crete club was the potential travel involved if they did end up joining the league.

Manning, the closest community to La Crete is over three hours away.

The furthest teams from La Crete would be Grande Prairie and Fort St.John and would both face anywhere from 6-8 hour road trips.

At this time there is no word on any other communities looking to potentially join the NPHL for the 2019-2020 season.
