Aug 4, 2019 | 7:00 AM

Alberta’s 45th Heritage Day is this Monday, and the city of Grande Prairie will be holding their celebration in Muskoseepi Park.

Muskoseepi Park is showcasing a variety of music and dance performances from several different cultures in the Amphitheatre from local and regional artists.

The Grande Prairie Centre for Newcomers will also be hosting a kermesse, which is a cultural exchange in the Ernie Radbourne Pavillion.

The kermesse will include items such as art, clothing and lifestyle items from a variety of cultures.

Mike Moman, the summer events programmer for the city of Grande Prairie, says Heritage Day in Grande Prairie is an event they are proud to host.

“Heritage Day is really recognizing all the different cultures that we have especially here in the community of Grande Prairie, because Grande Prairie really is an amazing, diverse community and we have so much community that’s built through that diversity and it really makes this young, vibrant city so unique.”

At the Grande Prairie Museum and Heritage Village, there will be demonstrations of traditional crafts and trades, including blacksmithing, yarn spinning and candle making.

There will also be a petting zoo and games for children to participate in.

Mike Moman says it is exciting to see the festivities get bigger each year.

“Heritage Day celebrations at Muskoseepi Park is an annual event, so we do this every year and it continues to become more exciting every year as we expand the multicultural nature of the city and as more groups come in so we get to see that improving alongside with the city itself.”

Heritage Day events are free to attend will run from noon to 4 p.m. in Muskoseepi Park, though attendees are encouraged to bring cash for things such as the food trucks as there are no ATM’s on site.
