Grande Prairie man gets jail time for 2017 Jasper police chase
A Grande Prairie man has pleaded guilty to five different criminal code counts stemming from a police chase in Jasper back in 2017.
In a release sent out Tuesday by Alberta RCMP, police said 44-year-old Philip Jason Mannix entered guilty pleas to the following charges in Hinton Court of Queen’s Bench on May 30:
- Driving a motor vehicle while being impaired
- Resisting arrest
- Assaulting a police officer with a weapon
- Failing to obey a court order
- Operating a motor vehicle while being pursued by police
The incident happened on April 20, 2017 at around 11:45 p.m. During a traffic stop of Mannix along Highway 16, Jasper RCMP began an impaired driving investigation. As RCMP attempted to arrest Mannix, he resisted and fought with the officers. Police failed to use a Taser on Mannix, and he was able to escape custody and flee the scene in his vehicle.
