Sunday marked the start of Local Food Week in Alberta.

Various events are being held around the province.

Tuesday, the Seniors Community Kitchen in Sexsmith will make supper using products from vendors at the local farmer’s market. There will be no charge for seniors. It will start at 4 p.m. at the Sexsmith Curling Rink.

Wednesday, The Fairview Farmers Market will have some displays and demonstrations including ones on looking after bees and hens. There will also be kids activities. It will start at 5 p.m. at the Fairview Legion Hall.

The Grande Prairie Farmer’s Market is hosting a contest called Who Grew It the Biggest? It is for locally grown vegetables. There is also a pie cook-off. Pies will be judged on Saturday, the same day as a chili cook-off and kids activities at the Market. There is more information about these items on the Grande Prairie Farmer’s Market Facebook page

The week will culminate with Alberta Open Farm Days August 17 and 18. A half-dozen places in the Peace Region will be hosting visitors.
