Grande Prairie Help End Auto Theft

City Enforcement Services teams up with RCMP, Crime Prevention to combat car theft

Aug 20, 2019 | 7:00 AM

City Enforcement Services, RCMP and Crime Prevention are partnering for this years second Grande Prairie Help End Auto Theft, or GP HEAT program.

GP HEAT focuses on teaching the public how to prevent theft of vehicles and valuables within vehicles.

August 20 and 21, GP HEAT teams will be out in community parking lots issuing GP HEAT notices to vehicles that identify if the car is a hard or easy target for potential thieves.

Residents are reminded of how they can prevent vehicle theft:

  • Ensure vehicles are locked and windows closed.
  • Never to leave keys inside the vehicle.
  • Remove valuables such as phones, tablets, laptops, money, wallets and purses.
  • Park in well lit, highly visible areas .
  • Use your garage if you have one.
  • Report suspicious behaviour to police.

More information can be found at the City’s website.
