Dino Derby being hosted this weekend at Evergreen Park

The Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum will be hosting a Dino Derby in partnership with Mr. Mike’s Paint the Park Purple – Race for The Cure event on August 25 at Evergreen Park.

The Race for The Cure raises awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer research.

“Mr. Mike’s supports the dinosaur museum and its efforts to fund-raise and expand its profile in the community and is happy to offer this opportunity for them to do that. The addition of the dinosaur races will also help attract more people to this event and aid in fundraising efforts for pancreatic cancer research.” says Don Moon, Marketing and Sponsorship Manager at Evergreen Park.

The entire event is family friendly and free.

A $5 donation to the Dino Derby allows for entry into a prize draw and for photos to be taken with a prehistoric creature.

Linden Roberts, Executive Director of the Dinosaur Museum, says there will be other activities as well.

“We will also have a table from Grande Prairie Regional Tourism, and a dig pit where kids can dig.”

Those looking to enter in the derby must have a minimum $500 in sponsors, and the museum is currently still accepting entries, says Roberts.

“If somebody wants to race, they can still race. So, they can go onto our website and if an organization would like to sponsor a dinosaur we can set them up with a runner. Or if somebody wants to get sponsors from their friends, neighbours and companies they work with, we will accept additional dinosaurs through the course of this week.”

Visitors are also encouraged to dress in purple for the Race for The Cure event for a chance to win prizes.

A $5 entry allows individuals to toss a purple Frisbee at a purple tractor tire on the track to vie for a $1,000 Marlin Travel gift certificate. Food and beverages will be available, including a special purple drink to mark the occasion.

Other activities include a silent auction.

The event begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday, and the Dino Derby race begins immediately following the horse races.
