Peace Regional RCMP responded to a report of an altercation between several individuals in the south-end of Peace River on August 26 at approximately 1:18 p.m., during which a firearm was alleged to have been displayed.

The suspects were reported to have fled the area in a vehicle following the incident. Police located the suspect vehicle a short time later and conducted a high risk arrest of the occupants, resulting in a temporary disruption to traffic on highway 2 the Peace River bridge.

31-year-old Mukhtar Ali of Nampa has been charged with two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of possessing a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, two counts of resisting a peace officer and three counts failing to comply with conditions of a recognizance.

Ali remains in custody at this time and is scheduled to appear in Falher provincial court on September 5 in relation to these matters.

Ali was previously charged in connection with an armed robbery at a liquor store in Nampa last month. Ali was set to appear in court for these charges on August 26.

RCMP are asking anyone with information relating to this to contact the Peace Regional RCMP detachment at 780-624-6677. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
