NEW BRIDGE

County Exploring Possible New Wapiti River Crossing

Sep 21, 2019 | 9:34 AM

It is only an idea at this point, but the County of Grande Prairie is exploring an idea for a new crossing on the Wapiti River.

Public Works Director Dale Van Volkingburgh says it is something they want to talk about with the MD of Greenview…..

“In the south Wembley/Huallen area, around Range Road 90, to see if that would help industry, crossing there instead of everything going to Highway 40 to go around. That is the only other bridge. We are looking at maybe industry partnership and an MD/County of Grande Prairie partnership if there is a wish and a need.”

No concrete plans are in place at this time.

Van Volkingburgh adds they also want to meet with industry representatives….

“We look at efficiencies, and how it can made industries’ life better, along with municipalities on either side so absolutely we want to have a conversation with them.”

County Council approved going ahead with the discussions at its meeting this past Monday.
