New pediatrician comes to Grande Prairie

Sep 30, 2019 | 5:17 PM

Infants, children, and adolescents have more access to local medical care, as a new pediatrician is now practicing in Grande Prairie.

Dr. Salam Al-Jubouri has left his practice in Calgary to join the medical team at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital. He is now the sixth pediatrician in the city and is practicing out of the Grande Banks Medical Clinic.

Dr. Al-Jubouri has moved into town with his wife and teenage son. His daughter has stayed behind in Calgary, where she is attending University.

“We’re very excited about this move because it will give us an opportunity for a new start,” says Dr. Al-Jubouri, in a release. “We like how quiet Grande Prairie seems compared to Calgary. We don’t have to drive for more than 30 minutes to arrive at our destination.”

Alberta Health Services says bringing Al-Jubouri to Grande Prairie is part of a plan to recruit family physicians to communities in Northern Alberta.

AHS adds they are working with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees, to ensure health supports and services for Albertans are provided.
