The Grande Prairie Library and the Peace Library System presented to the Community Living Committee on Tuesday, highlighting their newest features and initiatives.

This year, they have introduced several new things, including opening up spaces and creating a new room for board room type meetings or for small groups to work in, new accessible seating, and a teen space.

They have upgraded their microfilm reader/printer and added Creative Stations with their computers to include photo, video, sound editing, and AutoCAD.

New collections were added as well, including ‘Binge Bags’ – library curated collections of either DVDs or books that have a common theme.

Items have been added to the Library of Things, which is a collection of items that can be taken out like a library book to be used and returned, including an Echo Dot, snowshoes, and a portable AED.

They also highlighted that library patrons are able to see how much money they have saved on the bottom of their receipt.

The partnership between the library and the Regional Hospital Foundation and the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie began as well called Born to Read, where a book is donated to the parents of every baby born at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

Training for library staff on administering Naloxone and local needle sweeps for big events was done by NorthReach as well.

American Library Association Homelessness Training was also done to equip staff to better interact with street-engaged patrons.
