Latest edition of Teepee Creek Stampede was one for the record books

The 103rd annual Teepee Creek Stampede set an attendance record this year, with over 31,000 people visiting during the 4 day event.

President of the Stampede Association, John Muggaberg, says they added some new attractions to the show this year, which helped draw more people to the stampede.

“We had some different trick riders, we had mounted shooters come in. We had a pretty good turnout from the cowboys with the wagon racing. Topline entertainers and all the rest,” he said.

The grounds themselves have also seen some improvements and upgrades. The wagon track was completely rebuilt, a rail fence and access gate were installed at the Wild Camping area, and Phase 2 construction of the indoor riding arena and agricultural events facility were completed.

Muggaberg says he’s not surprised by the record turnout, as the stampede has been gaining momentum in the past few years.

“As word gets out, outside the Peace Country, we just draw more and more people. It’s a real weekend event, there’s something for the whole family, and we try to have something for everybody to make sure it’s a great atmosphere to have a great time.”

Despite having record attendance, the stampede did not turn much of a profit, as they increased their added money in the pro rodeo events to become a Tour Rodeo.

“So we’re with the likes of Ponoka, Strathmore, Dawson Creek and others in the Large Rodeo category. So that increased our costs a bit, but it gets us up to the next level.”

Muggaberg says they are always working towards improving the stampede grounds and bringing in more attractions, and hopes to see even more people turn up for the 104th annual Teepee Creek Stampede which will be held July 2020.
