Over the Thanksgiving long weekend, police across Canada had their #OperationImpact initiative to encourage safe driving behaviours.

The initiative was organized by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police.

Between October 11 to the 14, Alberta RCMP say there were four fatalities, 18 injured pedestrians, and 272 separate collisions.

A total of 4,402 charges were laid in Alberta, including:

  • 3,440 aggressive driving charges, including speeding.
  • 106 driving without a seatbelt charges.
  • 105 impaired driving charges.
  • 90 distracted driving charges.

Alberta RCMP say they will continue to work with sheriffs, other law enforcement and safety partners to inform Albertans to make correct and safe driving choices.
