Local owner sending three horses to quarter-horse racing’s richest day

Oct 26, 2019 | 7:00 AM

Albuquerque, New Mexico is hosting the richest day in quarter-horse racing and a local owner will send three horses to the starting gate.

All three of Chuck Stojan’s ponies running in the Challenge Championships at the Downs Racetrack & Casino qualified at Evergreen Park this summer.

His horse named Stripsteak will run in the biggest race of the day, the Grade 1 Challenge Championship.

Get It Hot is in the Grade 3 Derby Challenge Championship.

True Copy is in the Grade 2 Distaff Challenge Championship.

Another qualifier from Evergreen Park, Gone To Be Bright, is in the Grade 1 Distance Challenge Championship.

Two other Grande Prairie qualifiers are skipping these races after recording wins at Century Downs last weekend.

They are Honey’s Painted Pop and Singles Cruise, a horse owned by Janice and Barry Sather of Beaverlodge.

The Pines Restaurant and Casino will be showing the races live. They start just after 6 p.m.
