The Washboard Union sends students in La Glace a special message

Nov 28, 2019 | 3:23 PM

The students at La Glace School were treated to a special message, from a Canadian Country Music Award winning band.

The Washboard Union sent a special video message to the students, asking them to watch the music video for their new single, Country Thunder.

In April 2018, the students at La Glace School made a special tribute video for the band’s song, Shine, and the band was so touched, they came and visited the students in May 2018.

Jade Nyland, chair of the La Glace and District Agricultural Society, says it’s pretty incredible that the band came out to La Glace, where they held a special performance, and hung out with the kids.

“It was a pretty cool thing. There’s not a lot of schools that have CCMA award winners visit them, and hang out with them, and send them special email requests.”

Nyland says the Agricultural Society partnered with the school to organize the event, and a few days ago, the Washboard Union reached once again, asking for another special message to be passed along to the students.

Principal Heidi Hargreaves says having the band reach out to the students was incredibly meaningful.

“Like I said to the students, this is very special, and I don’t think other students across the province got that special message, so we’re feeling extra fortunate today.”

The kids were filmed as they got up and danced and cheered while watching the music video and listening to the tune. A copy of their reaction will be sent back to the band.

The Washboard Union video reaction

Hargreaves adds that it’s difficult to say what was more exciting, receiving the message from the band, or the kids reactions.

“When I watched the video, I got it yesterday morning, and honestly I had a smile plastered on my face, because I just knew the kids were going to be so thrilled. However, watching the kids’ live reaction, there’s nothing really like it.”

Hargreaves says they don’t have any plans to make another tribute video like they did in 2018, but the school will continue working with the Agricultural Society, and possibly make another student project.

Hargreaves adds a special thanks to the community and community members for making these kinds of events happen, and to the staff from La Glace school, for their work on putting together these kinds of projects.
